    My name is Alyssa. How the heck are ya?

    Welcome to Empathy is Badass, where you don't have to be an ass to be a badass! My mission is to help my fellow humans find freedom & empowerment through empathy, compassion, & mindfulness.

    I spent years feeling trapped in a victim mindset that no longer served me, and I wanted out! So, I got uncomfortable, vulnerable, and questioned everything I thought I knew.

    I found true peace at rock bottom and will never be the same. If sharing my sometimes strange and difficult circumstances and stories can remind someone struggling that they are not as alone as they feel and that there is always hope, that is enough for me.

    We will talk about how to turn your pain into power, how to heal, grow, and let the bullsh*t go. We will celebrate wins big and small. We will try and fail new things. We will learn to speak kindly to others and ourselves.

    I am not here to persuade, convince, or convert you. If you want out of the cycle, if you want to be unstuck, it's up to you. Change is inevitable. Embracing and making the best of it is up to you.

    My goal is to create a safe space and community for anyone on the path to healing, personal growth, finding joy, seeking truth, working on loving themselves, and anyone ready to make a change.

    Every day, every moment is a gift. We all have an opportunity to be the light and make others feel seen. We are never alone. We are a part of everyone and everything, and we are in this together.

    You are capable of forgiving yourself, forgiving others, and letting go of the past and future.

    You are in control of your thoughts and emotions.

    You are beautiful and unbroken.

    You are worthy.

    You matter.

  • Why Are You Sorry for Existing?

    In this episode, I talk about how sorry I've always been for existing.


    I realized recently that I feel and say sorry for just taking up space and existing in the world on a daily basis. I apologize to strangers constantly for walking in their general direction, being in the same space, feeling or being awkward, or not understanding something they were saying.


    I never recognized how sorry I always was until I was in my 20s and coworkers and friends started asking me why I was always apologizing. I never really thought about why. Before I cared for and wanted the best for myself, it never really mattered to me that I was sorry or why I felt that way in the first place.


    I had a "this has to end" moment today when I said "sorry" to a stranger after opening the door for them. That's right, I apologized to someone else, for being polite, because I felt like I was taking up too much space.


    I realized at that moment that I still have some work to do, and also wondered if anyone else out there was feeling just as sorry as I was for existing.


    That was the inspiration for this episode. I wanted to remind everyone that regardless of what you have done, who you have been, or what you have been told, you are worthy of taking up space in this world. But it will take time, and maybe even a little practice for you to really believe it's true.


    Imagine that your uniqueness is your superpower. You can use it for good, to inspire others to believe that they are worthy of not just existing, but living a beautiful, full, and happy life.

You are not alone! People change careers, styles, living arrangements, doctors, clubs, and more every single day! It makes perfect sense that out of the million bajillion things to try or be in this world, you might not find your dream job or activity on the first try. The best part of the human experience is that as long as you're still alive, you always have a chance to start over! I'm sure to some, the last sentence might sound a little cheesy or motivational poster-ish, but it has always been true in my experience. Every day we wake up we have a choice to make to be complacent with our circumstances or to try to actively try to change what no longer serves us. The universe will always provide if you're open to it, but that doesn't usually look like a package delivered to your front door. It is your responsibility to be intentional with your thoughts, actions, and decisions. You have control over your destiny, but it will take hard work and hope along the way. Sometimes change can feel like an insurmountable task. Remember that growth is an infinite goal, there is no finish line. The real goal is to be honest with yourself about what you are unhappy with, and do your best every day to work towards change.
