In dieser Folge von Infinite Talk sprechen wir über alpine Sicherheit unter dem Motto „Be Safe, Be Searchable“. Wir führen ein Szenario an, in dem eine Person bei einer Solo-Tour im steilen Gelände stürzt, bewusstlos wird und nicht genau lokalisiert werden kann. Daraus leiten wir die zentrale Frage ab, wie Such- und Rettungskräfte Betroffene schneller finden können.Wir sprechen mit Gerhard Kremser, Bezirksleiter der Bergrettung Pongau, Stefan Schröck, Leiter der Bergrettung in der Steiermark und RECCO-Instructor, sowie Hans-Peter Halander von der Bergrettung Dorfgastein und dem Infinite-Trails-Team. Sie beschreiben, dass fehlende Ortsangaben, unklare Notfallsituationen und lange Suchaktionen in der Praxis häufig vorkommen und Zeit dabei entscheidend ist.Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf den Zahlen zur Bergrettung in Österreich und Salzburg. Wir erwähnen die steigenden Einsatzzahlen, die häufigste Unfallursache Sturz und Stolpern sowie die hohe Bedeutung ehrenamtlicher Bergretterinnen und Bergretter. Außerdem sprechen wir darüber, dass mehr Menschen in den Bergen unterwegs sind und dass sich Tourenplanung und Vorbereitung entsprechend anpassen müssen.Danach erklären wir die RECCO-Technologie. Der Reflektor ist passiv, benötigt keinen Akku, kein Netz und keine Registrierung. Er wird von Detektoren am Boden oder am Hubschrauber erkannt und kann bei Suchaktionen im alpinen Gelände, aber auch bei Trailrunning oder im Winter helfen. Wir besprechen auch, wo der Reflektor am besten getragen wird und dass er an Kleidung, Helm, Rucksack oder Ausrüstung verbaut sein kann.Zum Schluss geht es um Notfallorganisation, Verhalten bei einer Hubschrauberrettung und die Bedeutung von Tourenmeldung, Sicherheitsausrüstung und klarer Kommunikation mit Kontaktpersonen. Wir betonen, dass schon kleine Maßnahmen die Auffindbarkeit verbessern können. We present a scenario in which a person falls during a solo tour in steep terrain, becomes unconscious, and cannot be precisely located. From this, we derive the central question of how search and rescue teams can find victims more quickly.We speak with Gerhard Kremser, District Head of the Pongau Mountain Rescue, Stefan Schröck, Head of the Mountain Rescue in Styria and a RECCO instructor, as well as Hans-Peter Halander from the Dorfgastein Mountain Rescue and the Infinite Trails team. They explain that a lack of location information, unclear emergency situations, and long search operations are common in practice, and that time is a critical factor.A key focus is on statistics regarding mountain rescue in Austria and Salzburg. We mention the rising number of rescue missions, the most frequent causes of accidents—falls and tripping—and the high importance of volunteer mountain rescuers. Furthermore, we discuss how more people are heading into the mountains, which means trip planning and preparation must be adjusted accordingly.Following this, we explain the RECCO technology. The reflector is passive, requires no battery, no network, and no registration. It is detected by detectors on the ground or via helicopter and can assist during search operations in alpine terrain, as well as in trail running or winter activities. We also discuss where the reflector is best worn and note that it can be integrated into clothing, helmets, backpacks, or equipment.Finally, we address emergency organization, behavior during helicopter rescues, and the importance of leaving trip plans, carrying safety equipment, and maintaining clear communication with contact persons. We emphasize that even small measures can significantly improve one's detectability.
