"Deciding isn't the same as wanting. Everybody in Iran who was in our position wanted to be safe. Wanting's easy. Wanting doesn't cost anything, but deciding — that's a whole different animal."
— Nicky Billou

This Thought Leader Nugget opens with a story Nicky has carried his entire life — the night a Molotov cocktail came through his family's living room window in Tehran when he was eleven years old. His father pulled out the burning wick and poured out the gasoline with his bare hands. The family could have waited, hoped, and watched like many others in their position. Instead, his parents looked at each other and made a decision. They left behind everything — a business, a home, a community — and started over in Canada.

That story sets up a principle Nicky has seen confirmed in more than twenty years of coaching and more than a thousand conversations with high performers: the people who most need your help are rarely the ones who will take it. The ones who will are the ones who have already decided they need it.

The Latin root of the word decide — to kill off the alternative — is the frame here. Real decision has no plan B. And when you understand that, it changes how you think about your clients, your sales process, and how you spend your energy.

If you have ever had a prospect say "let me think about it" and then go silent, this one is worth your time.
