How much information do you actually need before you can read what's already in front of you?
Astrology offers an enormous range of techniques, points and systems to explore. But does adding more information necessarily make us better astrologers?
In this episode of The 50/50 Astrologer, I challenge you to consider what would happen if you had to give a reading using only the fundamentals: planets, signs, houses and major aspects. Could you still give a good reading? And more importantly, could you do it well?
We explore the difference between information and relevance, why understanding what a client wants can change the entire direction of a consultation, and whether we sometimes use technical complexity to compensate for uncertainty or a lack of confidence.
We also examine something I call performing astrology—when demonstrating how much astrology we know begins to take priority over using that knowledge to help the person sitting in front of us.
This isn't an argument against learning more astrology. It's an invitation to think about what comes next in our development as astrologers.
Perhaps the next skill we need isn't another technique. Perhaps it's better judgement, stronger communication, more effective listening, or simply knowing what to leave out.
If you already knew enough astrology, what would you have to work on next?
