    ⚡ **THE CMECP® PROGRAM IS EXPANDING.** ⚡

    The **Certified Master Electrical Code Professional® — CMECP®** has always been about helping Master Electricians take their knowledge beyond minimum licensing requirements.

    Now, CMECP® offers **two distinct professional certification paths**, plus a special advancement program for Journeyman Electricians working toward the Master level.

    🏢 **PATH 1 — CMECP® CERTIFIED CONTRACTOR**
    Designed for established electrical contracting companies that want to certify the company, develop their workforce, and demonstrate a higher professional standard.
    To qualify:
    ✅ The company must have been in business for at least **12 months**
    ✅ The company must be owned by a **Master Electrician or Equivalent**
    ✅ The qualifying Master Electrician must complete the CMECP® certification process

    Program Fee: $3,975

    Includes:

    ⚡ Company-level CMECP® certification
    ⚡ Four months of advanced CMECP® training
    ⚡ Four (4) CMECP® Certified Technician course enrollments
    ⚡ Certified Thermal Imaging Course
    ⚡ TradeHog Mobile for CMECP® Professionals
    ⚡ Advanced exams, technical review, and professional development resources
    The four technician enrollments are training opportunities — **not automatic certifications**.
    Each technician must independently qualify as a **Master Electrician or Equivalent** and complete all Path 2 requirements before earning the CMECP® Certified Technician designation.
    **Annual Contractor Renewal: $595**
    This also includes applicable renewal for active CMECP® Certified Technicians maintained under that contractor’s program.

    👷 PATH 2 — CMECP® CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN

    This is our standalone advanced **Master Electrician Certification** path.
    You do **not** have to work for a CMECP® Certified Contractor to participate.
    Any qualified **Master Electrician or Equivalent** may apply directly.

    Program Fee: $995

    Candidates must successfully complete:

    ✅ Four months of CMECP® training
    ✅ 19 competency examinations
    ✅ 100-question remotely proctored NEC® examination
    ✅ Technical lesson or essay
    ✅ CMECP® Review Board approval

    Standalone Annual Renewal: $150

    This designation is earned — not purchased.

    CMECP® JOURNEYMAN PROGRAM — $1,475

    Licensed Journeyman Electricians or Equivalents may enter the CMECP® Journeyman Program while working toward their Master Electrician license.
    Candidates have **12 months** to complete the advanced CMECP® training and obtain a **Master Electrician license or Equivalent**.

    If all 19 training units and competency exams are successfully completed, the candidate does **not** repeat the standard Path 2 training program.

    Instead, they may advance directly to:

    ⚡ The CMECP® proctored exam
    ⚡ Technical lesson or essay
    ⚡ Review Board evaluation
    ⚡ Master Electrician credential verification

    Successfully complete everything within the 12-month period and the destination is:

    🏆 CMECP® CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN

    The Journeyman Program is the pathway.
    The Master Electrician license remains the requirement.
    The CMECP® Certified Technician designation is the destination.

    The Truth About GFCIs — UL 943, Floating Generators, Bonding & Current PathsThere may be more misconceptions about GFCIs than almost any other electrical safety device.

    Does a GFCI need an equipment grounding conductor to work?

    What does the toroidal sensing coil actually monitor?

    Why might a GFCI behave differently on a truly floating generator?

    And what happens when a bonded-neutral generator is connected to a dwelling through an interlock where the neutral is not switched?

    In this episode, Paul Abernathy breaks down the actual operating principles behind UL 943 Class A GFCIs and explains why understanding the current path is far more important than simply memorizing terms like “grounded,” “bonded,” or “floating.”

    We explore how a GFCI compares current leaving and returning through its monitored conductors, why an equipment grounding conductor is not required for differential-current sensing, and why a GFCI should never be thought of simply as a device that “detects current going to ground.”

    You'll also learn why a truly floating generator may have little or no first-fault current path, how a second fault can completely change that condition, and why connecting a generator to a dwelling can change its electrical relationship to ground.

    Then we tackle one of the most misunderstood generator issues in the trade:
    Bonded neutral vs. floating neutral.

    If a generator is connected through an interlock or transfer arrangement that does not switch the neutral, the generator neutral remains connected to the dwelling's grounded conductor system. Adding another neutral-to-ground bond at the generator can create parallel paths for normal neutral current through equipment grounding and bonding conductors.

    We also cover:
    • How a GFCI's toroidal current transformer actually works
    • The difference between GFCI protection and overcurrent protection
    • Why a GFCI can work on a circuit with no EGC
    • Why “GFCI protected” does not mean “equipment grounded”

  • Data Centers, Local Resources, and Government Failure

    In this episode, I examine the rapid expansion of data centers and the pressure they can place on local electrical infrastructure, water supplies, land use, tax policy, housing, and other community resources.

    While data centers are often blamed for moving into an area, the larger issue may be the decisions made by local governments that approve these projects, offer substantial incentives, and fail to establish meaningful requirements to protect the people who already live there.

    This discussion is not simply about opposing data centers or economic development. It is about responsible growth, transparency, and accountability. Local officials should carefully evaluate the long-term costs, require data center operators to address their impact on infrastructure and natural resources, and ensure that existing residents are not forced to carry the financial or environmental burden.

    Data centers may be necessary to support our increasingly digital world, but local governments have a responsibility to negotiate agreements that genuinely benefit the entire community—not just developers, investors, and short-term tax projections.
