"We Want Each Other to Shine" with Po’Chop and Switch the Boi Wonder

There is arguably enough drool, tears, and other human juice shed from watching these two amazing artists perform to fill a pool (one I’m certain these two would use to make some horny synchronized swimming show or something else amazing).

This is because it’s one thing to see performers do a new act — it is an entire other thing for each of these unique and layered performances to bring deep reflection, admiration, thought, horniness, and all flavors of tears. When they are in the room, you are in the undeniable presence of brilliance. Enter the multi-attitudeness of artists Jenn Freeman and Parker Haines (also known as Po’Chop and Switch the Boi Wonder). Producers, dancers, burlesquers, drag performers, writers, mentors, and so much more, these magical beings meet in so many capacities, and importantly as the co-producers and co-hosts for Notes on Masculinity. Self-described soft menace, and me described nuanced (i.e. layered) heart-on-sleeve (i.e. emotionally intelligent) gremlin, Red Velvet Riot (aka Rachael Everson) is a burlesque performer, playwright, writer, weaver of complexity - the most seriously unserious f!cker in every room. A testament to the idea that indulging emotions and leading with values will create solid foundations of self and communal support. “putting the sweet in menace and the bite in kindness" with Emil Holt and Luke Virgilio.

Putting the “sweet” in menace, and the “bite” in kindness - Luke and Emil ( aka Missile Kid and Karma Carnelian) are movement artists working in dance, burlesque, drag, acrobatics, and more. They are both teachers, and have a strong sense of intentionality in their work. I am inspired by the ways their relationships weaves in to their collaborative work, and how this soup of relational dynamics informs layered, vulnerable, and captivating work.

Regardless of rolling with ‘em or doling ‘em out, Nelly Clementine and Vixen Violencia are a punchy production duo who co-produce Risque Review (@ris), a monthly burlesque review at Rogers Park Social. Together, they connect a wide variety of performers from all over to slam collective ta!nt on the quaint RPS floor. They are both incredibly kind, multitalented (Vixen is a ceramic artist and cook, Nelly is a costume designer), hard workers, who always seem calmly on the fast-moving ball of monthly production side gigging.
