Drew Brees didn’t just offer a hot take, he put his finger on the problem every defense loves to face: an offense that tells you what’s coming. We break down why the New Orleans Saints look so predictable on early downs, how first down runs from heavy personnel turn into long-yardage traps, and why the lack of consistent play action is leaving free yards on the field. When your formations broadcast intent, even average defenses can play fast, squat on routes, and wait for the Saints to make the next mistake.

We also get specific about solutions that actually fit the roster. If you’re going to live in 12 personnel and 13 personnel, use it to create real matchup advantages, not just to “establish the run.” We talk about flipping tendencies, using tight ends to stress linebackers and safeties, and spreading out to run into lighter boxes. The goal is simple: win first down so the whole playbook stays open, and stop forcing a power identity when the personnel doesn’t consistently support it.

Then we take the argument bigger than one game plan. How quickly can you tell if someone “has it”? We compare the patience given to Spencer Rattler with how fast Tyler Shuck showed tangible results, and we ask the uncomfortable question about Kellen Moore: how much more evidence do you need? Finally, we bring Mickey Loomis into it, including the sunk cost fallacy, what the Saints learned from the Dennis Allen era, and what “cutting losses” should look like if the organization wants a real reset.
