We live in a personality and "self-awareness" obsessed culture. Yet, despite all our tests and podcasts, we seem to be less confident in our identity than ever! How do we answer the deep questions of who we truly are? Interestingly, the best way to figure this out, isn't by looking inside of ourselves, but by first looking upward to the one who made us - when we understand who God is, we have a clear path to understanding who he made us to be. This Sunday we’ll read over King David's shoulder as he pens a poem about who God is and how it changes the way we view ourselves.

Modern life and Western Civilization offers us physical comforts as an amazing gift, but an antagonizing god. Of all the cultural currents that undertow our lives there may be none more subtle but deadly.

As Luke closes his narrative (Acts 21-28), we find the apostle Paul being arrested, attacked, humiliated, doubted, shipwrecked, snake-bitten, chained, rejected, awaiting trial and death.

We think that alleviated hardship affords comfort (i.e., If this hard thing wasn’t happening to me I would be ok, comfortable). Yet in a moment of severe hardship, and tremendous uncomfortability, Paul is found at peace, unhindered.
