CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR CHEERS FROM KEITH AND LEE

It’s been quite a year for Keith and Lee’s podcasting endeavours. A growing listener base, encouragement from unexpected quarters and some great feedback. So the guys wanted to take the time to thank everyone for their support. Keith and Lee love podcasting and have been thrilled to see their studio expand and grow along with the many guests they have spoken with throughout the year on their DONT GET ME STARTED and SURF TOWN podcasts. Although Keith fronts the SURF TOWN podcasts, Lee is the silent co-host and tech whizz who keeps all the studio gadgets going to ensure the magic happens. So a big thank you to all their listeners and guests who have made 2025 so memorable for them - plus the very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, from Keith and Lee. See you all in 2026!

  • DO WE NEED TO FIND OURSELVES?

DO WE NEED TO FIND OURSELVES? -

Some people seem to have a confidence about themselves and their place in the world from a young age. Others though, don't. Some could even be classified as lost souls. They don't appear to have the same self-assurance as the others who exude a self-confidence and peace about who they are. Questions such as who am I, where do I fit in this world, what are my values, what do I like, what do I lean towards that feeds my soul, what are my beliefs and convictions are very real ones that many people need answers to in order to understand themselves - to "find" themselves. Just as some find their place and understanding early in life, others do so much later in their life's journey as "late bloomers." When you do arrive at such an assurance is not important, but what is crucial is that you do arrive. Not comparing yourself too harshly against others and continually moving forward while probing for answers is essential when seeking to find who you really are. Self-discovery is very powerful and fulfilling.

  • REGRETS - DO WE FOCUS ON THEM TOO MUCH?

REGRETS - DO WE FOCUS ON THEM TOO MUCH? …

The obvious answer is yes, yet so many of us do. All too often, we allow them to torment us. Quite a few psychologists report it’s one of the main issues they have to talk through with their clients. It can torment them as they look back and wish outcomes they are now living with one way or another were different. Often regrets can be recurring, bringing with them heavy feelings such as sorrow, a sense of having missed out and even shame. Regrets, if we let them fester (and it’s best not to), can have a haunting presence like that of ghosts. However, there are positives and silver linings in the situations we find ourselves in due to our regretful behaviour or decisions. Easy to say, but they’re definitely there. The trick is recognising them rather than being swamped by the over-focus on “what could have, should have been" type of thinking.

  • WHAT MAKES A GENTLEMAN?

    WHAT MAKES A GENTLEMAN? ...

It’s not only a good question but a timeless one, isn’t it? It may not be so fashionable in certain quarters to ask this, or to pass yourself off as a gentleman, but the true qualities of a real gentleman are as valid and needed today as they ever were. But what are these qualities? It’s easy to ask some AI bot that will throw up some generic answers, and while not wrong, AI answers don’t always include the lived life experiences of two men who have known real gentlemen. The two men, Keith and Lee, are both challenged to be gentlemen in order to be the best men they can be for their loved ones, families - and themselves. And so they are willing to share their personal perspectives, thus raising some interesting points. Coupled with this question is the equally relevant one asking, “What is masculinity, and is it relevant in today’s society?” Both rich discussion points that Keith and Lee dive right into ... well, after a bit of friendly banter that is.

ARE YOU YOUR OWN WORST ENEMY? -

...This is a statement put to Keith many years ago and one he has been mulling over quite a bit recently. So he suggested to Lee that it would be a good podcast topic. Immediately Lee’s eyes light up saying, “Oh yeah, love it - let’s do it!” Keith usually just floats along with whatever they plan to talk about but Lee likes to dig around to bring some substantial points to the discussion to keep things moving along. Which he does, but he’s also quite an astute guy with a wealth of living to draw from once the two of them start chatting. So with a great topic and Lee’s enthusiasm the two guys produced a rather interesting episode … along with a couple of snappy little jokes from Keith.

  • ARE STEREOTYPES VALID?

    ARE STEREOTYPES VALID? ...

    - Are stereotypes valid, is one of those questions that's pretty easy to answer. Most people will tell you yes or no almost immediately. And most would likely answer no due to the popular opinion that stereotypes are too general and therefore not a sound basis for making evaluations or judgments. Obviously, to go on stereotypes alone, for it has been said, 'stereotypes exist because stereotypes do exist’, is lazy thinking at best and at times offensive… which can be inaccurate and even dangerous. But are they valid? Can they be used positively? Keith thinks so. Lee not so sure which he backs up with some very relevant points. Are stereotypes valid is a question that has more to its answer than simply being dismissed with a yes or a no. Plus, despite what most people say, stereotypes are used far more broadly than one may realise. Which, when pointed out to those who dismiss them outright, find surprising.

HOW MUCH VALUE SHOULD WE PUT ON THE NOW RATHER THAN THE FUTURE ? -

Keith and lee recorded this episode outside of their beloved studio. Normally they both like nothing better than to sit behind their microphones to shoot the breeze as they talk about life. However, as they possess Bluetooth microphones that enable a mobile (cell for our Yankee/Rebel listeners) phone to record their podcast, the guys decided to use them for this week’s conversation. ‘HOW MUCH VALUE SHOULD WE PLACE ON THE NOW RATHER THAN THE FUTURE ?,’ is the question they addressed. A topic they both agreed was well worth exploring. As per usual Keith and Lee enjoyed themselves, not necessarily expressing the insights of “experts,” but sharing their thoughts as guys who enjoy exploring life’s many issues. Plus, have so fun along the way.

IS IT ALWAYS GOOD ADVICE TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART? -

... Keith and Lee had been out of their studio for about a month, which of course meant they hadn't recorded their weekly DONT GET ME STARTED episode. (Thanks for being patient, faithful listeners). And they both missed doing so. This recording was their 91st, so after laying down a weekly episode for over a year and a half, it's understandable why they were happy to be back behind their microphones discussing life with their own free-flowing, lively and (inimitable?) deliveries. This episode's topic of whether it is always good advice to follow your heart, excited Lee, who is always keen to accentuate the positive, and typically rose to the occasion with some good research. But not before the guys had a bit of fun with some casual banter, catching up after their break.
