  • Episode 3.13: "Sometimes Scary Things Are Fun"
    2025/10/29

The long awaited train episode (3.13, “This is A Dark Ride”) is here, and so are our besties, Ellis, KC, and Dylan! We mention sanism, discuss bisexuality, and revisit Cameron’s cast for Deepa’s PLL birthday party. We reminisce about some of our past Halloween costumes and once again remember that Pastor Ted is a parent. Post-feminism is bad, Spencer! We massively fail at coming up with catchy public health slogans, but we make up for it with one about police abolition instead. It’s a good thing Adam Lambert didn’t join us because two of our friends raise some major red flags. Happy ghost train! 👻🚂

  • Episodes 3.10, 3.11, & 3.12: "B Is For Bad"
    2025/09/26

Today we take on the mighty task of discussing three episodes: 3.10, “What Lies Beneath”, 3.11, “Single Fright Female”, and 3.12, “The Lady Killer”. The vibes between Aria and Ezra are not successfully tense, just sad and weird and boring (per usual). We don’t have interesting things to say about Nate, we just reiterate the anti-Blackness of the plotline. Ali’s bullying is SOOO gay, but we are pro-Paige in these episodes for her suffering, maturity, and baby butch moments. Deepa recounts our previous feelings of betrayal around Toby joining the A team, and we share more thoughts about reality television. Cameron has a thing for uniforms and Deepa is surprisingly the one who brings up Buffy. We keep a secret from you, our dear listeners.

  • Episodes 3.08 & 3.09: "Beware – This Site Is Cursed"
    2025/09/11

In this episode we discuss 3.08, “Stolen Kisses”, and 3.09, “The Kahn Game”, with recurring guest, Dylan! Dylan surprises us with musical analysis, we report on Toby wolf watch, and Cameron makes us play another ridiculous PLL game. We apologize for talking so much about Ezra and his boring problems. Deepa discusses Deepa's internalized racism fanfiction, and Dylan pulls a tarot card to answer a very important question. Maybe Meredith could just move out of Rosewood? Or commute to work? We decide that symmetry is inherently gay and that gossip is an important community building activity. You can’t trust cops, Bart.

  • Episodes 3.06 & 3.07: "I Missed My Dolls"
    2025/08/27

Hi friends! In today’s pod we discuss episodes 3.06, “Remains of the A”, and 3.07, “Crazy”. Season three remains a struggle as the show demonstrates its typical ableism, anti-Blackness, and transphobia. We attempt to reckon with our past as Jason apologists. This episode introduces us to Charlotte and Ken, and the Liars continue to be terrible at placing memorabilia in Ali’s grave. We ponder if the Zack storyline is a deflection from all the other abusers in this show. Deepa thinks about Radley in the horror context, and Cameron is uncharacteristically wrong about more than one thing. It's important to remember that the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards bisexuality!

  • Episodes 3.04 & 3.05: "I'm Too Depressed to Work a Zipper"
    2025/08/14

We are joined by special guest Leslie to talk about 3.04, “Birds of a Feather”, and 3.05, “That Girl Is Poison”! We discuss unrealistically fast party preparation, how horrible and racist the Nate storyline is, and whether the wine moms should just date each other (yes). Leslie educates us on the past and present of psychiatric incarceration in Pennsylvania, which is full of infuriating facts, and we struggle to figure out how Mona got into Radley in the first place. Cameron tries to sell us on her yacht doctor show, and Deepa shares ideas for PLL fanvids that will never be made. Shout out to Leslie’s friend Riley, one of our favorite DFTC fans!

  • Episodes 3.02 & 3.03: "You Are A Lousy Kisser"
    2025/07/30

Today we cover episodes 3.02, “Blood is the New Black”, and 3.03, “Kingdom of the Blind”. No one will be surprised but it’s just more ableism! We hate everyone! Wren has daddy issues, Hanna is incredibly violent, Lucas is a bad boy now, Aria loves the cops, and, unfortunately, Ezra still exists. Thank god for Melissa and Meredith’s highjinks to bring some levity to these episodes! Our bar for Emily's fashion is so low, and also, Mona should sing more.

Content notes: Apart from stuff in PLL itself, which we don’t usually warn for, we discuss familial violence towards disabled people from 10:20 to 10:49, and addiction, suicide, and ableism in Hedda Gabler and Ethan Frome from 49:45 to 55:53.

  • Season 3 Premiere: “I Bet You Remember Me”
    2025/07/16

DFTC3! Today we cover the season three premiere, “It Happened”. We start with some exciting offseason updates and then get to our framework around psychiatric abolition, which is necessary as this season is sooooo Radley focused. We hate a lot of things in this episode and are just so sad for Emily. In DFTC tradition we speculate about so many things we can’t remember: Who dug up Bethany’s body? Did Melissa kill Garrett? And has Spencer been too busy this summer to have sex? We realize we might run out of chickpea recipes at some point so we could use some help with those or if anyone knows Adam Lambert!

We have an amazing new website, and you can find the rest of the show notes here! It was made by web developer Rainbow Forge - we highly recommend working with them, they are so great and have sliding scale prices. We also have a new email address, which is hello@chickpeaspod.com! Send us your thoughts on the podcast and/or chickpea recipes!

  • Season 2 Finale: “Follow Me, End Up Like Me!”
    2025/03/19

It's season finale time again! We had an impromptu in-person recording to cover 2.24, ”If These Dolls Could Talk”, and 2.25, “UnmAsked”, where we got things we’ve been waiting for all season like Lost Woods Resort; Mona and Caleb kissing for... reasons; the A reveal; and, of course, DOLL HOSPITAL. We are confused about many different plot points, whether Mona actually caused the Liars to take Hanna away from her, and how peanut butter flavor could be confused for toffee. Turns out one of the Liars really is the unequivocal worst dressed, and we have data to prove it. See you next season, bitches!

Chickpeas Oh My Gosh: One-Pot Mediterranean Quinoa with Spinach and Chickpeas and Roasted Veggie Grain Bowl – make them separately, or take what you like from each recipe like Deepa’s mom did!

Fashion Analysis: Our best and worst outfits, and some others we mentioned!

    Deepa’s Literary Analysis

    • Ezra’s “forbidden love” (gross) collection includes Tristan and Isolde, a medieval chivalric romance (assumed to be 12th century Celtic in origin, later folded into the Arthurian legend), and the letters of (Peter) Abelard and Heloise, who were real-life 12th century French theologians
    • Psycho is in fact a book by Robert Bloch, but neither of us have ever read it, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Things We Referenced Related to PLL

    • The plethora of Psycho references in this episode, including everything about Harold and the Lost Woods Resort, and Mona’s internal monologue at the end
    • Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’s “feminist” take on Psycho by…putting a dude in the shower

Things We Referenced Completely Unrelated to PLL

    • The Annabelle doll legend – Unpacking The Eerie has a fun episode about this!
    • If you like creepy doll content, we recommend The Conjuring, M3GAN, and the creepy doll episodes of Supernatural ("Playthings") and อังคารคลุมโปง: เอ็กซ์ตรีม | Terror Tuesday: Extreme ("Our Little Sister")
