In this episode, I discussed themes in the book “Sula” written by Toni Morrison alongside my personal experience of reading the book and admiring Sula as an unapologetic black woman. Sula, to me, represented what it’s like when a Black woman refuses to be told who she is and spends each day figuring it out for herself. I discussed the dynamics of life in a small town and how Sula’s unapologetic nature shaped how people interacted with her and perceived her. Sula was grounded in HER view of the world, regardless of how anyone else felt or saw her.

I feel like one of the most powerful things you can do is tap into your own energy and become so authentically in tune with yourself that your blessings and aligned opportunities know where to find you. Slowly, I’ve been learning to stop apologizing for needing things like rest, slower days, and my peace. To stop labeling myself as good or bad and allowing myself to just be Bre and what that means for me at the moment. Once you learn how to tap into your intuition, you find out what’s aligned and what isn’t.

  • you’re THAT GIRL

Whenever I'm asked why I do the work I do? I have to pause because the true answer is a very long one. But I think the simple answer is that I believe that every person deserves to feel like they can take up space, to feel like they are that girl, to feel like they don't have to pause to overthink. If they know the answer, that whatever answer they give is enough simply because they spoke and they were themselves authentically. That's all that is ever needed. I'm learning that strength is your ability to ground yourself even when the world around you is chaotic. It takes a different type of peace. To find it even when you know that things around you are constantly evolving, changing, and shifting.

In this episode, I continue my discussion of emotions and how to allow them to run through you without controlling you. I reflect on experiences where I allowed my emotions and memories to block me from new things. I was so caught up in things from the past that I couldn’t notice the present changing in front of me. Earlier the other day, I read something that said,” You are a constellation of everyone you’ve met.” It made me reflect on how many experiences I have allowed to dictate the way that I show up when they were just lessons that I was supposed to learn, not baggage for me to continue to carry. It also made me realize that I would allow my mind to focus on the negative rather than the positive. So many people have blessed me with their presence, and rumination only allowed me to focus on the ways that I perceived to be hurt.
