What if the answer to a difficult problem isn't to think harder, but to think differently?
In this episode of The Creativation Show, Dr. André Walton explores the difference between divergent and convergent thinking and why we need both to make better decisions, solve problems, and unlock new possibilities.
Divergent thinking expands your view, helping you explore possibilities, challenge assumptions, and discover connections you may have missed. Convergent thinking then helps you evaluate those ideas, eliminate what doesn't work, and turn possibilities into practical decisions.
Dr. Walton also explains how stress, data, algorithms, spreadsheets, and even AI can pull us into overly analytical thinking, leaving us stuck on what he calls the “hamster wheel of thinking.”
The key isn't choosing creativity over logic. It's learning when to expand your thinking and when to narrow it down. Because sometimes the breakthrough isn't finding a better answer. It's discovering a better question.
