Didn't Go Platinum is the podcast that looks at the unloved and the overlooked from the world of heavy metal. We ignore the classics and instead, focus on the lesser-discussed gems. Whether it's a rarely mentioned entry from giants like Iron Maiden, or a relatively obscure British thrash band's forgotten comeback, we're interested. Where other metal podcasts look at Rust In Peace, Painkiller and Number Of The Beast, we'd rather discuss Five Serpents' Teeth and Dance Of Death. We Say Hello To Sunshine in the latest episode of Didn't Go Platinum. Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Dave Stewart of the Noise Cartel to discuss the excellent but frequently misunderstood second album by Finch.

This remarkable slice of mid-2000's post-hardcore has become something of a cult favourite, but a sizeable chunk of Finch's early fanbase positively hated it. And that's not surprising; from the artwork that initially seems nice but gets weirder the longer you look at it, to the odd time signatures and disturbing lyrics, it's a very challenging album.

But it's also very good. Here, Dave makes the case for why it deserves a reappraisal. Don't go in expecting another 'Letters To You,' this is an entirely different Finch.

You can find out more about Dave's work with The Noise Cartel at their website.

Big shout out to the Pop Punk & Emo True Stories YouTube channel, whose Finch documentary was a major resource for this episode.

Didn't Go Platinum goes into space, as we follow A Pathway To The Moon. Lindsay from the Heavy Metal Journal returns to discuss her love of this excellent album by one-man Canadian black metal genius Unreqvited.

It's a dense and enthralling trip into the void, defined by lengthy passages of exquisite beauty and some throat-ripping, soul-crushing extremity. But Unreqvited's first non-instrumental album is also an overlooked gem, and we're going to try and figure out why.

You can find Lindsay on Instagram and be sure to check out her excellent YouTube Channel, The Heavy Metal Journal.

  • S3, E12: Deliver Us by Darkest Hour
    2026/08/04

Is it metalcore or is it melodic death metal? Either way, it's Deliver Us, the fifth album by the eternally underrated Darkest Hour.

Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Brother John of the Menn Metal Mayhem podcast for a deep dive into this high-velocity slice of angry, but also kinda sad, American metal. This mid-2000's gem was excellent, but never got the credit it deserved. Let's find out (or at least, theorise) why.

You can find Brother John and the rest of the Menn Metal Mayhem podcast online on Spotify and Instagram.

You can follow Didn't Go Platinum on Instagram and Threads at @dngplatinum, email the show at dngplatinum@gmail.com, or visit Tim's Substack.
