किसी भी प्राचीन शहर की तरह दिल्ली भी कभी किले के अंदर बसता था। इसकी ऊँची दीवारों के पार जाने के लिए कई दरवाज़े थे लेकिन लाहौरी, कश्मीरी, तुर्कमान और खूनी, ऐसे चार दरवाज़े थे जिनका इतिहास दिल्ली जैसा ही रोचक और हिंसक था। पर आज शहर किले की दीवारों के पार दूर दूर तक फैल गया है। दीवारें भी गायब हो चुकी हैं। बस दरवाज़े रह गए हैं। भूले बिसरे अलग थलग पड़े जिन्हे समय और इंसान दोनों ही भूल चुके हैं।

The four gates of Delhi

Like every old city, Delhi once was a walled city, encircled by high walls and well-manned gates. Among the many gates - Kashmiri, Lahori, Turkman, and Khooni were most important as their histories were as interesting and bloody as the city of Delhi. However, today as the modern city of Delhi has spread far and wide and the walls have disappeared, these mighty gates stand forlorn and forgotten.
