Writer and filmmaker John Ragsdale joins Jeff Penn, co-host Alex Young, and Sam Berry for a new episode of Deep Cuts: The Game! We talk with John about his book Scorched and his movie Smashsquatch, exploring his work as a storyteller across the worlds of writing and filmmaking. Then it’s time to put our movie knowledge to the test with a game celebrating the high-octane, unmistakable style of legendary director Tony Scott. Expect iconic characters, explosive action, and some seriously deep cinematic cuts as our contestants battle it out for points. Another great guest, plenty of movie talk, and a game that rewards the deepest film knowledge. The deeper the cut, the more points!

This week on Deep Cuts, we’re joined by director Gloria Mercer and writer Aidan West to talk about their new film, A Safe Distance , a tense, intimate thriller about relationships, freedom, danger, and the unexpected paths that can take you from one life into another.

We dig into how the film came together, their long-running creative partnership, the movies that inspired them, and what it takes to bring a story like this to the screen.

Then we put Gloria and Aidan to the ultimate test with three Deep Cuts: two women on the run, one very complicated criminal enterprise, and a whole lot of money that nobody should probably be carrying around.

They made the movie. They know movies. But do they know the actors?

DEEP CUTS = MORE POINTS.

This week on Deep Cuts, we’re hanging out with a true Scarborough original, actor, storyteller and local legend Tony Nappo, joined by Nick Kroustis and Alex Young.

Tony takes us back to his Scarborough roots, including a little love for the legendary burger joint The Real McCoy, before sharing stories from a career that has taken him from Canadian productions to some seriously memorable Hollywood movies.

And when it’s time for the Deep Cuts game, things get a little unusual, because Tony has a connection to every single movie we’re playing. Can he turn that inside knowledge into a winning score, or will Alex and Nick dig up the deeper cuts?

Great stories, Scarborough pride, Hollywood memories and plenty of obscure movie knowledge, this one is The Real McCoy.
