A great cast that includes Benjamin Bratt, a wasted Terence Stamp, Carrie-Anne Moss relegated to a single filming location, Val Kilmer playing a character (possibly) named after a prop comic, Tom Sizemore as a scientist who might not know what he's doing, and Simon Baker is there too! All that and more in this movie that may deserve its fairly negative reputation!

Loud, somewhat gaudy visuals thanks to that clumsy early thousands aesthetic! A possible influence on the Wachowskis' Speed Racer movie! A larger budget but a less tangible story with somehow even cringier lines! A third act you'll barely remember! The introduction of characters who would go on to be staples of the series! John Singleton trying his hand at directing a silly blockbuster! Race obstacles that would lead to expensive automotive repairs! A great car jump stunt that's wasted due to poor editing and unnecessary visual effects! A cast that includes a returning Paul Walker, James Remar, Eva Mendes, a pre-Yellowstone Cole Hauser, Mark Boone Junior, Devon Aoki, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson starting out as somewhat of a Dom Toretto wannabe before finding his character as the movie goes on! The entry of the series with possibly the least sense of "family," you never realized you could miss Vin Diesel so much!

A guy playing guitar at a party! Product placement for Pizza Hut, Corona, and most-notably, the nitrous oxide brand NOS! A great high-speed heist to open the movie and plenty of (mostly) real stunts and action! Occasional surreal, anime-influenced racing scenes years before the Speed Racer movie came out! A versatile cast of young actors on the verge of stardom, including Vin Diesel with a rare shred of humility, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez laying the foundation for one of cinema's most iconic female action heroes, and Matt Schulze making the most of his very punchable face! A 2001 time capsule which may have borrowed heavily from Point Break, but still has great chemistry between the two leads with some impressive world building and story mechanics, and would surprisingly go on to become one of the biggest and most influential action franchises in movie history!
