In this Daily Devotion for October 5, 2026, Pastor David Balla walks through Psalm 84:1-3, a deep longing for God's dwelling place, so strong the writer's soul faints for it. Even sparrows find a home near the altar, a picture of God's presence as close, safe, and worth building a life near.
This devotion carries that longing to something even greater than the altar. You have Christ Himself, present for you at His own Table, offering His true body and blood, not a symbol but His real presence given for the forgiveness of sins. There we find true grace, forgiveness, and salvation, freely given through His finished work. Through His redemption we are welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, and in the Lord's Supper that same nearness this psalm longs for is placed into your hands.
Do not let that longing fade over time. Come back to it again and again, the way a sparrow returns to her nest, to the true and lasting dwelling place God has given you in Christ.
