  • Our first in-person viewer Q&A: Must-Have EV Features, LEAF Batteries & Detective Cars
    2026/08/31

Like Boaty McBoatface, we've learned the lesson of expecting the public to come up with sensible stuff. And ignored that lesson.

Welcome to the first-ever in-person episode of Ctrl Alt Refuel! In this viewer Q&A, we dive into your burning EV questions. We debate the absolute must-have features in an electric vehicle (is it a glass panoramic roof, a heat pump, or one-pedal driving?).

We also have some fun trying to pick the perfect covert and chase cars for a hypothetical Ctrl Alt Refuel private detective agency!

Plus, we get deep into the weeds on Nissan Leaf batteries: Are rapid gate and cold gate really as bad as the forums suggest? What happens when a Leaf battery starts degrading, and is there any truth to the battery expansion issue? We discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of owning a Leaf, including some interesting points on the battery warranty.

And for the grand finale, we finally answer the age-old question: Does a charged battery pack actually weigh more? Einstein might have a thing or two to say about it!

(Only Gen-X) will get this!) These questions - and many others - will be answered in this episode of Ctrl Alt Refuel [cue Soap theme tune]

  • Ctrl Alt Refuel Meets Patric Greenstripshow | The Ultimate EV Adventurer
    2026/07/30

Ctrl Alt Refuel sits down (well…. sort of) with the one and only Patric Greenstripshow, the explorer formerly known as @peoplestarrif, as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg

What happens when a short-range VW e-Up!, a Tesco car park, a camping chair, and one of the most determined EV adventurers in Britain collide on a Google Meet call? Glorious chaos, brilliant stories, and pure inspiration.

Patric has already driven his little e-Up! around Great Britain, Ireland and (for his 60th birthday) right across Europe - sleeping in the car the whole way. Now he’s gearing up for something even madder: #RTWev80, a solo attempt to drive around the world in 80 weeks in a small electric city car, starting 17 August 2026.

In this episode, we listen to Patric’s extraordinary real-world EV adventures, the setbacks, the determination, the deadpan storytelling, and his unshakeable belief that you can do big things in a little electric car.

Proper car-nerd chat, eyebrow-raising moments, laugh-out-loud chaos and genuine inspiration from someone actually living the adventure. But he's genuinely grounded. We know he's aware of the peril, and he doesn't sugarcoat it.

No corporate fluff. Just real talk from people who drive this stuff.

    Follow Patric’s journey:

  • Three Nissan nerds and me
    2026/06/23

Three Nissan nerds and me! Join Paul, Newt and Hannah (our supply northerner) as we dive deep into the latest Nissan news in this episode of Ctrl Alt Refuel.

We kick things off with some positive financial updates: Nissan's small operating profit, cash in the business, and why new CEO Ivan Espinosa's cost-cutting moves seem to be working. Then we geek out over the bold new Juke design (love it or hate it?), its CMF-EV platform, Sunderland production plans, and how it stacks up against the outgoing model. We also chat about the Micra, Leaf, potential Qashqai future, and more quirky Nissan models.

Paul’s car has passed the meaningless 100,000 mile threshold. He seemed to think it was important enough to capture it on video. You will probably disagree. Newt then reminds him how it's had new wheel bearings, a new windscreen and four new tyres. Cheap car isn't all that cheap, as it turns out.

Are we getting a Primera EV in the UK? A maybe a new PHEV Navara too.

Nissan and Chery are in discussion to use a production line to build the Chinese manufacturers cars there. We examine what might and might not happen there.

We discuss news that the Jatco drivetrain plant - a joint venture of Nissan and Jatco isn't going to go ahead in Sunderland. We didn't see this coming, so it came as a surprise.

Expect honest takes, owner stories, design debates, and plenty of EV and platform chat. If you're into Nissan, EVs, or just fun car nerd chat, this one's for you!

And more... Like if you're Team Juke

What do you think of the new design?
