Cross the Jordan: Water Baptism and the Testimony You Carry | Capt. Rajesh Daniel
Water baptism is not only the burial of an old life; it marks a boundary between wandering in the wilderness and walking forward in God’s purpose.
In this Bible-based message, Capt. Rajesh Daniel explores Israel’s miraculous crossing of the Jordan River in Joshua chapters 3 and 4 and its powerful connection to water baptism.
Behind Israel was the wilderness. Before them was the land God had promised. The Jordan was overflowing, but when the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant stepped into the water, the river stopped, and the entire nation crossed on dry ground.
The Ark represented God’s presence. Israel did not enter the water alone—God’s presence went before them and opened the way.
In the same way, believers do not enter the waters of baptism trusting in their own righteousness. Jesus Christ has already gone before us. He entered death, carried our sins, was buried, and rose again in victory. Because He came out of the grave alive, we enter the water with faith and rise with the hope of resurrection.
Romans 6:4 teaches that we are buried with Christ through baptism so that, just as He was raised from the dead, we may also live a new life.
Israel entered the Jordan as a wilderness generation but came out as a people ready to pursue their inheritance. Crossing the river did not remove every future battle. Jericho and other enemies were still ahead. However, Israel could no longer live as though the wilderness were their permanent home.
Likewise, baptism does not mean that every temptation, struggle, or battle will disappear. It means our identity, ownership, and direction have changed. The old life is no longer our home. We now belong to Jesus Christ and are called to walk in His purpose.
After the crossing, God instructed Joshua to take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan. These stones became a visible testimony of the invisible miracle God had performed. When future generations asked what the stones meant, Israel was to tell them how the Lord had brought His people across.
Water baptism is also a testimony. It declares:
“Jesus Christ saved me. My old life was buried with Him. I have been raised to live a new life. I crossed a boundary, and I am not going back.”
Our testimony comes from the place through which God carried us. We must carry that testimony into our homes, relationships, decisions, and future generations.
Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize believers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
In the name of the Father, because He calls us His children and leads us into His purpose.
In the name of the Son, because Jesus went before us through death, burial, and resurrection and opened the way to new life.
In the name of the Holy Spirit, because He is God’s abiding presence who guides, strengthens, and empowers us for every battle ahead.
Join Capt. Rajesh Daniel for this powerful revelation and discover why baptism is more than a religious ceremony—it is a boundary, a testimony, and the beginning of a life moving forward with God.
The Father calls us. The Son opens the way. The Holy Spirit leads us forward.
