In April 2024, the death of 30-year-old Mica Miller at a North Carolina state park drew national attention after reports emerged that the pastor's wife had repeatedly contacted police about harassment and said she feared for her life.

Authorities ultimately ruled Mica's death a suicide and said there was no evidence that her estranged husband, John-Paul Miller, was involved in her death. But the investigation did not end there.

In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted John-Paul on charges of cyberstalking his wife before her death and making false statements to federal investigators. He has pleaded not guilty and denied abusing Mica.

Hodges (born August 16, 1966) is an American convicted serial killer and former sex worker who was found guilty in both Tennessee and Georgia of three murders. Hodges confessed to murdering at least eight men, most of whom were homosexual, between 1988 and 1990. He was tried for three murders: stabbing 34-year-old Barry McDonald in Tennessee on July 14, 1989; robbing and killing 37-year-old Ronald Bassett in Tennessee on May 14, 1990; and strangling 32-year-old Michael Whisnant in Georgia on May 16, 1990.
