Step into the enchanting world of The Country of the Pointed Firs, an 1896 masterpiece by American author Sarah Orne Jewett, often hailed as her finest work. The story follows a Bostonian narrator returning to the charming coastal town of Dunnet, Maine, where she once spent a fleeting summer. This time, she seeks solitude to complete her writing, finding refuge with Almira Todd, a local widow and skilled herbalist. As the narrator lends a hand to Almira with her visitors, her creative focus wavers, prompting her to rent an old schoolhouse that boasts breathtaking views of Dunnet Landing. Here, rather than diligently working, she immerses herself in reflection and connection with others. Jewett beautifully transforms the schoolhouse and other locations into symbols of profound meaning, making them central to the narrators journey of self-discovery and artistic exploration. - Summary by WikipediaCopyright 19th and 20th Century Fiction アート 文学史・文学批評
