A storm can hit with no warning, and in that moment you learn what you actually trust. We start with a real-life story from a beach in Indonesia where sirens blare, waves surge fast, and the only choice is to grab what matters most and keep walking forward. That scene sets the tone for a practical, gritty conversation about walking by faith when you feel exposed, behind, or afraid.

From there, we open Matthew 14 and follow Peter step by step: Jesus sends the disciples into rough water, the night drags on, and then Jesus comes toward them walking on the sea. Peter asks for a command, not a guarantee, and Jesus answers with one word: “Come.” We break down what that means for Christian faith today, why “faith without works is dead” (James 2:17), and how obedience often looks like action before you feel ready.

We also talk about the turning point where Peter gets distracted by the wind and begins to sink, and how that mirrors our own lives when anxiety, noise, and other voices get louder than Jesus. The good news is just as clear: Peter’s rescue is immediate, and the storm calms when Jesus brings him back to the boat. If you need courage to obey, clarity to ignore distractions, or a reset to keep your eyes on Jesus, this message is for you.

Pressure can feel like punishment until you realize it might be formation. Pastor Angus MacLeod continues Cornerstone’s “Becoming Peter” series by digging into why Peter starts out so rough and reactive and how Jesus turns that same man into a steady leader of faith. We zoom in on Peter’s world around the Sea of Galilee, where fishing is competitive, communities clash, and Roman taxation creates relentless daily stress that can push ordinary people into survival mode.

Then it gets personal. Angus shares what it looks like to live as a “name tag Christian” at work, saying the right thing while hiding the real transformation when it is inconvenient. From there we lean into the two words that change everything: “Follow me.” Following Jesus is not an instant makeover, it is a process of discipleship and sanctification where God deals with old habits, sharp edges, and even the critical internal monologue many of us carry.

Using 1 Peter and Jesus’ own example, we talk about suffering, injustice, and difficult seasons and why God can use heat and pressure to make something beautiful over time. Pillows do not make diamonds, but faithful obedience does shape a life. If you are walking through a storm, this message offers perspective, practical self-examination, and a clear invitation to respond to Jesus with your whole life. Two words can reroute a life: “Follow me.” That’s where we start as we launch Becoming Peter, looking past the statue and the legend to the real story of a working fisherman on the Sea of Galilee who hears Jesus call his name. We talk about why Peter’s transformation matters for everyday Christians, not as distant Bible history, but as a living pattern of calling, obedience, and identity in Christ that still applies when Monday morning hits.

We dig into Matthew 4 and the shock of “immediately” leaving nets behind, then we get honest about what those nets look like now: job titles, performance, money, reputation, and the need to stay in control. We explore what it means to acknowledge Jesus publicly, why baptism matters, and how “take up your cross” becomes a daily practice of surrender, forgiveness, and choosing God’s way when emotions run hot. There’s a raw moment about wanting justice and learning to release it into God’s hands.

From there, we follow the thread into Jesus’ ministry of teaching, healing, and deliverance, and the stunning reality that he shares authority with ordinary people. Peter later writes about tested faith, joy in trials, and a new identity as chosen people called out of darkness into marvelous light. Pastors Angus and Celeste lead us in communion and prayer, anchoring everything in the sacrifice of Jesus and the hope of salvation.

If you’re ready to take a real next step with Jesus, listen through to the invitation and prayer. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review so more people can find the message, then tell us: what’s the “net” you need to drop?
