The episode detail the harrowing history of a religious cult in Kirtland, Ohio, led by the self-proclaimed prophet Jeffrey Lundgren. After being expelled from the local church for theft, Lundgren convinced his followers to relocate to a farm where he implemented militaristic training and radical scriptural interpretations. The narrative focuses on the methodical murder of the five-member Avery family, who were sacrificed in a barn because Lundgren deemed them "sinful" and "unclean." Following the discovery of the bodies, the group was disbanded, and members provided chilling testimonies regarding the psychological manipulation and sexual abuse they endured. Lundgren was eventually convicted for his central role in the massacre and executed by lethal injection in 2006. This account serves as a grim exploration of how charismatic leadership can descend into extreme violence and communal tragedy.
