Merilyn is a recording artist with a stunning sound and style. With several albums to her credit, Merilyn brings us her golden vocals and guitar playing, as well as other instruments, on her albums. I find her style to be Country vibe and 'everybody's music', meaning that her thoughtful lyrics and musical arrangements touch 'everybody'.

In this Episode of Conversations with Crystal, I have the pleasure of chatting with Pat Powell.

Multi award winner Patou swings with kings and untouchables alike.

With a career that spans over four decades and right across the globe, Pat Powell (Patou) is one of Australia’s most accomplished vocal talents. He is the artist that everyone wants to work with.

From ska to blues. Hip-hop to soul. RnB to reggae. The extraordinary depth of Patou’s musical versatility was crafted over years of touring Europe with a variety of acts during the 70’s. His talent descended on Sydney with great force in the 80s, filling bars and clubs across Australia with his pioneering acts including Caribbe and Club Ska. Always staying true to his Caribbean roots but moving with the new wave of hip hop and electronica, Sydney - and indeed Australia’s touring circuit - didn’t know what had hit it.

One of Australia’s most demanded studio artists, recording with the likes of James Freud, Jenny Morris, Lisa Maxwell, Max Q and Margaret Ulrich, to name a few. He continued to record and perform with his own groups Lovetown, Ten Wedge and Neptune St, laying down several singles and continuing to fill music venues across the country.

This week on Conversations with Crystal, I had the pleasure of chatting to Country Original Artist, the gorgeous Brenda Kelly.

Growing up in a musical Irish family, Brenda had the musical influence from a young age. With her wonderful family sitting around the living room singing with jugs of ale, Brenda cut her teeth on music in a close loving musical setting.

With her band, Waiting for Brenda, and as a Solo Artist, she tours across the country performing her original songs, some of which you will get to listen to on this podcast. Wildhorse Mountain is one of my favourites and I play it regularly on my radio show, Crystals Kaleidescope.

Brenda is a singer songwriter from Brisbane, Australia. Brenda writes about love gone wrong and right, tales of places travelled, songs of healing, despair, humour, poignancy, fun, puns & empathy. Having performed original music in several bands, Brenda enjoys collaborating with musicians from various musical genres be that Folk, Pop, Punk, Bluegrass, Blues, Americana, Rockabilly or Electronica with partner Damir Katic.

In this Episode of Conversations with Crystal, I chat to an outstanding Drummer, Jim Finn.

One of the best in the business, Jim start drumming when he was a wee lad in a marching band.

No wonder he is an outstanding timekeeper!

Jim Finn has been one of the most sought after drummers in the Sydney scene since the 1980’s. In 1999, he formed his namesake band, Finn, and currently have nearly a dozen albums to their credit.

Regular overseas tourist to Europe and Ireland, Finn won the prestigious “Performer of the Year” award from the Sydney Blues Society in 2005.

Jim is truly the last of the ‘Aussie highwaymen, he is on the road 50 weeks of the year, travelling all round the world plying his trade, he began playing drums at age 5, first professional gig at 11. Has been leading his own band ‘Finn’, singing, writing, playing drums and producing 7 studio cd’s and has taken the band to the US, playing in Memphis and San Francisco as well as Europe 4 times. Performed with: – Phyllis Diller, Mick Taylor, Lucky Peterson, Charles and Cyril Nevil (Neville Bro), Robert Susz (Dynamic Hepnotics), Chris Turner, Dave Tice and Pete Wells (Buffalo, Rose Tattoo) whilst in Sydney. Has recorded with Wendy Saddington, Kate Dunbar, Jeannie Lewis, Margaret Roadknight, Sally King, John Power, Don Hopkins, Dennis Aubrey, Al Britton and Mike Gubb, to name a few, performed at most major Australian Blues festivals, Cork Roots festival and the Blackstairs Blues festival in Ireland. Jim’s also produced over 16 albums music with his company ‘front room records’
