Wealthy Canadians aren't necessarily better at picking investments—they're often playing a completely different financial game.

In this episode, Darren and Christina reveal six principles wealthy families use to build, protect and pass down their wealth. They explain why liquidity can be more valuable than a slightly higher return, why taxes must be considered before every major financial decision and why wealthy families build coordinated financial systems instead of collecting disconnected products.

Most importantly, these strategies aren't reserved for people who are already wealthy. They're often how people become wealthy in the first place.

Housing. Groceries. Clothing. Canadians are watching the cost of nearly everything climb—but none of those may be the biggest expense destroying your wealth.

According to the Fraser Institute's Canadian Consumer Tax Index 2026, the average Canadian family earned approximately $121,000 in 2025 and paid nearly $51,000 in total taxes. That means roughly 42% of its income went toward taxes—more than food, shelter and clothing combined.

In this episode, Darren and Christina break down the taxes Canadians see, the taxes hiding in the cost of everyday life and the future taxes being created through government deficits.

They also compare the Canadian and American tax systems, examine why highly skilled workers, entrepreneurs and investment capital are leaving Canada, and explain how tax rules can severely limit the wealth-building ability of Canadian business owners and real estate investors.

Most importantly, they discuss what Canadians can actually control—and how properly structured high-cash-value life insurance may help reduce taxation on the growth, access and eventual transfer of their wealth.
