Unlocking the Wisdom of Shikshavalli
The sacred Gayatri Mantra begins with the Pranava, followed by three mystical utterances: Bhūr, Bhuvaḥ and Svaḥ. Known as the Mahāvyāhṛtis, Bhagawan has spoken extensively about what they represent. Apart from being words of great vibrational potency, they can serve as keys to unlocking profound insights into the Upanishads.
The fifth section of the Śikṣāvallī of the Taittirīya Upanishad is devoted to Vyāhṛti Upāsanā, the contemplation of these sacred utterances. What can we learn by contemplating these? What does this section of the Śikṣāvallī reveal about the nature of the Self and the world as we experience it?
Drawing inspiration from Swami's explanation of the Gayatri Mantra, Dr OSKS Sastri, a former student and a faculty member of Swami's university, who has had the opportunity to study and chant the Vedas in His divine presence for many years, shares with us the deep insights that he was able to gain regarding these.
