In the realm of biblical commentary, few have displayed such unwavering honesty as John Calvin. He was neither a manipulator of texts nor a shaper of meanings to fit preconceived doctrines. His dedication lay in translating the original Hebrew and Greek with the utmost accuracy, striving to convey the true intent of the Scriptures. As noted by Dr. King, Calvins integrity shines through in his approach—he allows the Word of God to resonate on its own merits, resisting the urge to impose his interpretations or theories. Regardless of whether we agree with his conclusions, Calvins commitment to faithfully representing divine intent marks him as a remarkably honest commentator, never stretching or diminishing Scriptures message. This perspective is beautifully captured in Charles Spurgeons insights from Commenting and Commentaries, published in 1876.
