Welcome to Comic-Jutsu:The Art of Reading, Collecting, and Creating Comics!

Comic-Jutsu is dedicated to the lost art of comic book fight scenes. On this show, we talk about everything from the hard hitting right cross of Jack Kirby's Captain America to the slick slice and dice skills of Larry Hama's Snake-Eyes. Along the way, we'll call out the best and the worst of sequential art combat.

  • Diamond Distributors Lay Claim to Small Publishers Unsold Stock
    2025/07/23
In a very special episode of Comic-Jutsu, we try to consolidate some of the information and updates about the recent Diamond Distributors bankruptcy filing and its subsequent sale. It’s still affecting publishers and threatens the future of many publishers in the industry.
    Here. We. Go!
Check out the articles on Bleedingcool for more info: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/avatar-press-joins-anti-diamond-liquidation-publisher-coalition/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook&fbclid=IwY2xjawLifeNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHk_r27KySq5sILyM13g-DEH9A_9RsdwMJ4GxbrHLegVA1-PZFw6GK4kO9w4b_aem_-jSwGWI_D4WKyoBR_ISdrg
On January 14, 2025, Diamond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to facilitate the restructuring of its operations. The company received a $39 million stalking horse bid to sell off Alliance Game Distributors to Canadian-based hobby distributor Universal Distribution. Alliance Entertainment ultimately won the bid to acquire Diamond's assets in March, but later backed out after filing multiple lawsuits against the company.
A joint bid between Universal Distribution and Ad Populum was then approved and finalized in May 2025. Universal acquired the assets of Alliance Game Distributors, while Ad Populum acquired Diamond Comic Distributors, Diamond Book Distributors, Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, Collectible Grading Authority, and other assets. Diamond UK was not included in this sale.
Major layoffs at Diamond were reported soon after, including the shutdown of Diamond Select Toys. Penguin Random House ended its sub-distributor agreement with Diamond, ending its distribution of comics from Marvel Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, and others. By the end of May, Udon Entertainment had ceased shipments to Diamond. Dynamite Entertainment ceased shipments to Diamond and shifted to Lunar Distribution in mid-June. By July, Diamond's ComicSuite POS and PullBox pre-ordering system were shut down.
Diamond's existing inventory was not included in the sale, so the old company began selling it without paying publishers. There are nearly 130 companies affected, including Fanatagraphics and Dynamite, which is owed over $1 million and in danger of not meeting payroll.
The Collectible Grading Authority, one of Diamond's smaller assets and a rival to Certified Guaranty Company, was purchased by a consortium of investors in July 2025.

  • Youngblood Deluxe vs Youngblood Classic Comparison
    2025/07/03

Join Comic-Jutsu as we put the first issue of YOUNGBLOOD DELUXE under the microscope to see what we can learn.

THE BLOOD IS BACK!BADROCK! SHAFT! DIE-HARD! VOGUE! SENTINEL! RIPTIDE! COUGAR! CHAPEL!This is the ultimate collector's edition you’ve been waiting for. Re-scripted, re-colored, and re-lettered, this fully remastered historic first issue of YOUNGBLOOD #1 is ready to take comic stores by storm just like it did in 1992—when it shook all of comics to its core!Jam-packed with 40 pages of story and art, this deluxe edition (just in time for its 33rd anniversary) is the DEFINITIVE version of YOUNGBLOOD #1, the groundbreaking series that launched the Image Revolution!

Youngblood is a superhero team starring in their self-titled comic book series, created by writer/artist Rob Liefeld. The team made its debut as a backup feature in RAMM #1 (May 1987) before the next month appearing in the one-shot Megaton Explosion #1 (June 1987) before later appearing in April 1992 in its own ongoing series as the flagship publication for Image Comics and the wider Image Universe. Youngblood was originally published by Image Comics, and later by Awesome Entertainment. Upon Rob Liefeld's return to Image Comics, it was revived in 2008, 2012, and 2017. In 2019, Liefeld revealed that he has not owned the rights to Youngblood for several years - until now.

In most of its iterations, Youngblood is a high-profile superteam sanctioned and overseen by the United States government. Youngblood's members include Shaft, a former FBI agent who uses a high-tech bow; Badrock, a teenager transformed into a living block of stone; Vogue, a Russian fashion model with purple-and-chalk-white skin; and Chapel, a government assassin.
