The Colts are in deep trouble after a brutal opening game, with Coach Shane Steichen calling the performance “extremely disappointing” across all three phases. Defense surrendered over 500 yards, offense turned the ball over twice, and the team lacked rhythm everywhere. Communication breakdowns, missed tackles, and giving up explosive plays plagued the defense, while special teams penalties added to the mess. Offensively, they struggled under pressure, especially when backed up deep — facing that situation four times without escaping cleanly. Though some speculate safety Cam Bynum’s role as the green dot communicator might be part of the issue, Steichen insists deeper problems exist. The offense needs better protection and execution against blitzes, while the defense must unify quickly. With a tough road game against the dominant Chiefs looming, the Colts have no time to waste if they want to avoid becoming another highlight reel footnote.
