Thanksgiving binds the covenant relationship. As a covenantal act, thanksgiving occurs when God’s covenant is remembered and renewed, with God’s faithfulness acknowledged and his mighty acts remembered. Rather than demanding external ritual alone, God calls for a thankful heart. This transforms gratitude from mere emotion into something deeper: thanksgiving carries theological, ethical, and social implications within the covenantal context.
What are you thankful for? What does your thankfulness produce? It all begins with remembering what God has done for you in Christ. Being thankful for the grace of salvation, the strength for endurance, and the state of forgiveness should be cemented in our knowledge, wisdom, and understanding of your union with Christ. We shouldn’t obey to repay, nor should we strengthen others to earn favour. We shouldn’t evangelize to prove ourselves worthy. Rather, we should be growing in our faith, love, and hope because of how the truth of the gospel is bearing fruit. First in our lives, then in the lives of others. Redeemer Church, let us bear fruit in every good work; let us endure with joy; and let us make the gospel known. For the glory of Christ and the honour due to his name.
