Arthur Sze was just appointed to his second term as U.S. Poet Laureate. He speaks with host Matthew Chase-Daniel about his new book about translation Transient Worlds, and about blurring the boundaries between writing and reading, making poetry less intimidating, the way translations may change over time, and the joys to be found in language.

Candice Hopkins (citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation) has curated Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination since 1969 (now at SITE), inspired by two events from 1969, the publication of “Indian Theatre: An Artistic Experiment in Progress”, and the occupation of Alcatraz Island. She talks with Matthew Chase-Daniel about the show, history, representation, humor, and visual sovereignty, about intersections between activism and performance art, and how burning things down can create pathways to rebirth and reinvention in landscape and art.

Lynn Adler and Bill Shapiro

Lynn Adler spent time in the early 1970s in Petaca, a small village in Northern New Mexico. She photographed her transplant counter-culture friends, and the long-standing local community. Now more than 50 years later, she and (former LIFE magazine editor) Bill Shapiro have put together a book of the photos and accompanying writings. The photos are being shown in an exhibition at Obscura in Santa Fe. Host Matthew Chase-Daniel chats with them about putting together a book, how Petaca and New Mexico has changed, and experiences of working as an activist and as a photographer.
