The Church in Pergamum is situated in a place of great spiritual warfare and persecution, and though they hold fast to Jesus, the lies of false teaching are starting to creep in to the church. We need to remember that there is life only through Jesus, and not accept any other message.

Suffering is one of the most challenging realities of living in a fallen and broken world, one that will affect all of us in some way eventually. We might naturally question God's goodness or even his existence in times of suffering, so where is the hope? Ultimately we need to see that there is hope even in darkness because we have a God who deeply loves us, sending his Son Jesus as our suffering saviour, and who promises to make all things new.
