From there they dig into why we only seem to swallow the feelings that hurt, never the good ones, and follow that thread through Mel's mom's old debt notebook, Anne's fifty years of not being picked first, and a much lighter detour into an Andy Grammer concert where Mel finally stopped shrinking her own joy to match the room. It's messy, funny, and unflinching about what it actually looks like to stop performing "fine."
