概要
 The famous version of Winston Churchill stops in 1940. This episode of After the Lecture works from the whole record: the failed Gallipoli campaign he championed in 1915, the decade he spent out of office warning about Nazi rearmament, the wartime premiership that began on 10 May 1940, the landslide election defeat that removed him weeks after victory in Europe, and the contested history of his government's response to the Bengal famine of 1943. It tests a lecturer's premise — that statesmen are worth studying for what their decisions reveal about character and judgment — against the evidence, including the parts that complicate the hero story.
