Today’s episode is about religious discrimination and what happened when Dusti Howell—a tenured college professor—was challenged after taking time off for God’s Holy Days.

For decades, Dusti was able to observe the Holy Days without issue.

But in 2020, after returning home from the Feast of Tabernacles, he was told he could no longer take that time off without going through a new and difficult accommodation process.

What began as a workplace conflict turned into a 5 year-long legal battle - one that may help shape religious freedom protections in Kansas.

In this episode, Dusti shares what happened, what he’s learned, and why this matters for others in the Church of God community.

Today we’re talking about a trap everyone falls into: the Appeal to Authority fallacy—when we assume something is true just because an “expert” (or someone influential) says it is… without actually looking at the evidence or whether they’re even qualified to speak on it.

From “Trust the science” to “Don’t trust the experts,” both sides do it.

And if we’re not careful, we can end up outsourcing our thinking instead of practicing discernment.
