What does it mean to be a masterpiece? Not a pristine, untouched canvas, but something broken, worn, and reshaped into something far more beautiful than it ever could have been on its own. That is the heart of what we explore in this message drawn from Ephesians 2:1-10, where Paul lays out with stunning clarity who we were before Christ, who we are in him, and what our lives are ultimately meant to reflect. We are not people who cleaned ourselves up and then came to God. We came to him dead, spiritually speaking, caught in the pull of the world's value system, the desires of our own flesh, and the subtle distortions of a spiritual enemy who questions everything God says is good and true. And yet, right in the middle of that honest and even uncomfortable picture of our former selves, two of the most powerful words in all of scripture appear: But God. Rich in mercy, overwhelming in love, he does not wait for us to get it together. He meets us in the wreckage and breathes life into what was dead. This message invites us to stop striving to paint our own perfect picture and instead hand the paintbrush over to the one who specializes in bringing beauty from brokenness.
