A Louisville church, Pure in Heart Baptist, suffered a shocking theft when its entire air conditioning unit vanished between August 30 and the following Saturday—leaving congregants to worship in sweltering heat. Founded 54 years ago by Joyce Metlock’s father, the church has deep roots in the community and is now scrambling to adapt, holding services in a cooler fellowship hall with a small wall unit. Despite the setback, they’re refusing to be defeated, staying committed to their faith and mission. They’re turning to insurance and enhanced security to recover and prevent future incidents, while also highlighting how even places of worship can become targets for crime.
