Christ and Politics, Week 5
Day 5: Hold the Line: Hope for the Church in a Shifting Culture
Devotional
It is discouraging to watch the world run further from God’s design. But discouragement does not get the final word over the people of God.
In Acts 5, the governing authorities ordered the early church to stop speaking in Jesus’ name. Their answer was simple and immovable: we must obey God rather than men. They did not retreat. They did not compromise. They held the line, and God worked through their faithfulness.
That same call is yours. The church does not get to quietly fade into the background while culture rewrites the foundations of society. You are called to be salt and light, to engage with truth and hope, and to trust that Christ still rules over every cultural moment.
Here is your hope: God’s design is not fragile. It does not need your protection nearly as much as it needs your proclamation. You speak up, not because you are afraid the truth will lose, but because the people around you need to hear it.
Every time you gather at the Lord’s table, every time you open God’s Word, every time you live faithfully in your home and community, you declare that Jesus is Lord. Over all of it. Do not grow weary. Do not lose hope. The church has always been most powerful when it has been most faithful.
Bible Verse
“But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men.’” — Acts 5:29 (ESV)
Reflection Question
What would it look like for you personally to hold the line on biblical truth in your everyday life, without retreating into silence or fear?
Quote
“We cannot lose hope and be pushed into the shadows of culture to silently watch the west destroy itself on these issues.”
Prayer
Lord, keep us from growing weary in doing good. Strengthen Your church to stand firm, to speak plainly, and to love boldly in every cultural moment we face. Amen.
