Christ and Politics, Week 5
Day 1: Built on Purpose: God’s Design for Marriage
Devotional
From the very beginning, God had a plan. He did not hand marriage over to culture, courts, or personal preference. He established it Himself. He defined it. And it was good.
In Genesis, God created man and woman and joined them in a covenant unlike anything else in human experience. Jesus pointed back to that moment in Matthew 19. Not as a suggestion. As a declaration. When Jesus defined marriage, He drew a clear line rooted in creation itself.
That matters right now. The world keeps telling you definitions are flexible and truth moves with the times. That is a lie. God’s design does not move. Marriage between one man and one woman is not a cultural tradition that outlived its usefulness. It is a divine institution, and it reflects something eternal.
Here is the good news: God did not give you this design to box you in. He gave it because He loves you. His boundaries are not prison walls. They are guardrails, set there so you can flourish.
What God designed is good. Period. The world will say otherwise. Let it. Stand on the truth with confidence, because Christ is King and you are not standing alone.
Bible Verse
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” — Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you tempted to let culture define what God has already clearly established?
Quote
“Marriage is the foundation of society.”
Prayer
Father, thank You for the gift of marriage and for the clarity of Your design. Make us bold to trust Your Word when the world pushes back, and keep us from bending. Amen.
