Ever feel like parenting is an obstacle course of "shoulds" and expectations?

Today, I'm joined by Ashley, the founder of Birth Smarter and a Fair Play facilitator.

By sharing my own moments of mom burnout and marital tension, I expose the underbelly of trying to do it all and the freedom found in prioritizing presence over perfection.

This episode isn't just about the theory; it's packed with real takeaways that resonate with mothers fighting with their "to-do" lists and the relentless mental load.

    Together, we highlight for moms:

    • answering the tough questions about equitable division of labour
    • looking beyond the oversimplified parenting choices, like breastfeeding + bottle feeding.
    • self-awareness is the compass that guides us through the complex landscape of raising children.
    • the profound impact of social media on parenting

  • Breaking the Silence: Patricia's Battle with Postpartum Psychosis (Part 2)
    2024/03/31

    Send us a text

When the joy of welcoming a new life is overshadowed by the silent battles of postpartum depression, the stories that emerge can be as heart-wrenching as they are crucial to share.

We previously left you on a cliffhanger. Now, here is part two of Patricia Tomasi's story. She shared her harrowing experience with postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and the chilling touch of psychosis, shedding light on the struggles that many new mothers face in silence.

Her candid recount speaks to the soul:

    • Highlighting the often dismissive responses from healthcare professionals
    • The arduous journey towards finding the right treatment
    • It emphasizes why immediate and accurate care is not just necessary but life-saving.

We honour initiatives like Flora's Walk, which celebrates these stories while raising funds to enhance perinatal mental health programs and services.

Tune in for an inspiring conversation that is both a call to action and a profound reminder of the strength found in vulnerability and shared perinatal experiences.

  • Stop shoulding yourself mama: How to stay true to your values with Michelle Coels
    2023/07/23

    Send us a text

As moms, we often feel overwhelmed by the constant pressure to be perfect, both within ourselves and from society. In this week's episode with Michelle Coels from One Tough Mama Fitness and The Lift Society in Calgary, AB, we share how putting yourself first isn't selfish; it's non-fucking-negotiable in motherhood.

Trusting your instincts and making choices can be challenging, especially juggling all the mom-life balls (some glass and some plastic, some big and some small); knowing which ones to prioritize (and not drop) can be tricky. Despite the toxic guilt and shame, we must create time to care for the human we are.

    Ah Ha Moments:
    - When you take the time to reflect on what is important to you (and not important to you), you have more mental clarity
    - We've been conditioned (as women) to believe that choosing anything other than caregiving (kids or partner or house) is the wrong choice
    - You already know what you need! (You really do)
