Connor Bedard just became the youngest captain in Blackhawks history, stepping into the role at 21 with a mission: lead Chicago back to Stanley Cup contention. Taking over from Nick Foligno, he’s already signaling big things — not just as a scorer but as a leader committed to deep playoff runs. With a new five-year, $75M contract and fresh talent like Anton Frondell and Roman Kantserov joining the roster, the Blackhawks are shifting gears after years of rebuilding. Recent moves — trading for Bowen Byram and bringing back Patrick Kane — hint at a push for immediate success. Bedard’s return from injury will be key, and the spotlight is squarely on him as he guides this team out of rebuild mode and back into the NHL’s elite conversation.

Connor Bedard is now captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, becoming the franchise’s second-youngest skipper at just 21 years and 60 days old — behind only Jonathan Toews. Drafted first overall in 2023, his meteoric rise was cemented with a Calder Trophy-winning rookie season and even bigger numbers last year: 30 goals, 45 assists, 75 points — making him the first Blackhawk to hit 200 career points before turning 21. Though he’ll miss opening night recovering from shoulder surgery (expected back in November), Bedard’s leadership is already being celebrated, with Patrick Kane and Tyler Bertuzzi as his assistant captains. With two World Junior golds under his belt, this marks the dawn of a new era for the Blackhawks — young, hungry, and ready to lead.
