It is a word that gets thrown around and it is almost a cliche instead of something that is more substantive. It seems like, ever so often, some news report comes out declaring that revival has come to a church or a group of people. What is genuine biblical revival? In this episode, we will examine the characteristics of biblical revival. Text: Hab. 3:2 (2) O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.1. Revival originates with God AlmightyIsaiah 44:3 (3) For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:2. Revival blossoms among His People 2 Chronicles 7:14 (14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.3. Revival burdens with Conviction Isa. 6:5 (5) Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.4. Revival prevails with Prayer Acts 1:14 (14) These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.Acts. 4:31 (31) And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.Jas. 5:16 (16) Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. Revival converts with Power Rom. 1:16 (16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.Jn. 4:49-53 (53) The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.7. Revival results in PraiseEz. 3:11-13 (11) And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. (12) But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy: (13) So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off."A genuine revival without joy in the Lord is as impossible as spring without flowers, or day-dawn without light."
