Sometimes we can feel like there's something that we should be experiencing spiritually, but we aren't. Others may talk about it, we might see examples of it in Scripture, but it simply hasn't been our experience. This week we considered the good news that we don't have to miss out on anything that God has for us - and we thought about what we can do to be ready to receive what he wants to give us.

We experience negative, difficult surprises in life - setbacks. We don't get to choose whether they happen, but we can choose how to respond. If we respond well, they can actually prepare the way for God to do great things in us and through us.

Individual messengers can be stopped, but the mission of God is unstoppable. The faithfulness of those messengers is a big part of why this is true. This week, we looked at Stephen as an example of what it looks like to be completely faithful, and considered how we can follow his example.

We face bumps and obstacles as we pursue the mission Jesus has given us, and how we respond to those bumps really matters. This week we looked at how the early church faced one of those bumps, and how their response actually propelled their mission forward.

We paused the "Unstoppable" series to focus on community and, specifically, our Connection Groups. We were made for community, we need and want meaningful connections with others - but community requires commitment. We looked at several commitments that we need to prioritize if we're going to experience community with fellow believers the way God intends for us to.

We all want to see seasons of breakthrough in our life with God - for us individually, for people around us, for our church. Those seasons do come; but when they do, there is also often pushback and resistance that we feel. This was certainly the case for the apostles in Acts 5. As we look at their example, we see not only how to persist when that resistance comes, but also how to live now so that we'll be ready when they do.

What do our lives produce when our hearts are filled with fear? What about when they're filled with God's grace? In this week's passage we see this contrast lived out vividly, and are reminded that God's grace frees us to live fearlessly.

Text: Acts 4:13-31

When we face opposition and obstacles - and we will - how do we respond in a way that doesn't stop us from doing what God has called us to do and going where he has called us to go? We get some help answering that question as we look at the example of Peter, John, and the early Church in today's passage.

NOTE: Emergency alerts about a missing person were coming in on people's phones at the end of the sermon. So the confusion and comments about phones going off is due to that. Fun fact: Emergency alerts override the silent mode of your phone. Which I guess is a good thing. But distracting when you're trying to land a sermon!
