Matthew chapter 5 is the chapter in which Jesus went up on a mountain and taught His disciples the blessings received by the people of the kingdom of heaven and the life of the righteous. The Beatitudes are not conditions for man to obtain salvation by perfecting eight virtues. They show that those who acknowledge that they have no righteousness of their own and long for the righteousness of God receive the remission of sins, the Holy Spirit, and the kingdom of heaven by believing in the gospel of the water and the Spirit, and that afterward, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they bear the fruits of meekness, mercy, purity, and peace and endure even the persecution they receive because of the gospel with the hope of heaven.
