The Caterham 420R has arrived on iRacing, and Guy's first week with it has been quite a journey.
Initially, the lightweight British racer was fantastic to drive... until it was time to accelerate out of a corner. Sudden oversteer and spins made the 420R a serious challenge, but following an iRacing update addressing the rear suspension, Guy's experience of the car changed dramatically.
So what happened?
In Season 5 Episode 3 of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, we go back to where the Caterham story began, exploring the history of the Lotus Seven, Colin Chapman's lightweight philosophy, Caterham's takeover of the Seven and the development of the modern Caterham racing ladder.
Then, in Pulse, we examine the 420R's iRacing launch. Why did a suspension issue make it into the release build? Should it have been discovered during testing? Was the Caterham genuinely improved by the update, or, as some drivers argue, has iRacing simply made it easier?
And this week's iRacing Agony Uncle is for the newcomers:
What are the must-have apps for a new iRacer?
We look at Trading Paints, spotters, overlays, telemetry tools such as Garage61 and why filling your screen with data isn't necessarily going to make you a better racing driver.
