Long before she was a Saturday Night Live cast member, star of television sitcoms, author, and co-host of the podcast Bitch Sesh, Casey Wilson was performing plays in her backyard on a stage built by her dad. As a teenager, Casey and her mom bonded over the film Terms of Endearment, which was moving, often hilarious, and pretty resonant in its portrayal of mother-daughter complexity. When her mom died suddenly in her fifties, Casey was, of course, devastated but she also began to connect some unusual tendencies her mom had exhibited. Eventually, when Casey hit a rough spot in her health, her dad opened up about some chemical and mental health issues that her mom had been dealing with for many years. Now, as a mom of three, Casey has learned to accept her late mother and understand her struggles as she gives careful consideration to who she wants to be for her kids. It’s a very candid and funny conversation about what we learn, how we evolve, and what we pass along.
