Numbers 6:24-26 is a very familiar Bible verse that sums up the entire Gospel. This is such a good verse to internalize and live in this week. In this verse we discover God's heart to bless His children through grace and to keep them secure in His peace. Walking in His blessing should change our lives forever.

Where do you find life? Where do you find affirmation of life? We often need to be affirmed that we are living life well. And often we turn to our success in what we do or how we feel to regulate our confidence in a life well lived. Today Paul leads us to the source of security, freedom, and joy in life. Finding life in Jesus frees us from obsessive law keeping and emotional dysregulation. We find LIFE sourced in the person of Jesus Christ.

Paul calls us to not stop short. Don't just exalt Jesus and know that He is all powerful and all sufficient. Live in His all sufficient power every day. Today, as we unpack verses 9-15, we see this amazing life we get to live when we keep Jesus exalted. He is our new identity, His works give us eternal security, and His empowerment sets us on a new trajectory.

Avoiding Chaotic Currents of Culture

After establishing the Exaltation of Jesus in Chapter 1, Paul moves on to help the Colossians establish themselves in Christ. The Colossians were in a community that was at risk of being swept away in the trends of gnosticism, legalism, and humanism. How could they be a people resistant to falling back into these empty philosophies? In verses 1-10, Paul shows us how to avoid these chaotic currents and fix ourselves on the exaltation of Jesus.

An Altered Life, Not An Altar Call

When Christ is exalted we see the fullness of who He is and all He has done. This moves us far beyond responding to an altar call to an altered way of living. Paul uses this section to show the Colossians that He has found something worth living for. If you want your life to matter and have the energy for your days, then you need to find the subject and purpose worth living for. Are you willing to respond to the exalted Christ with a life used to proclaim Him?
