Does following Jesus happen primarily on Sunday mornings, during Bible study, or when we're praying? Or does God care just as much about what we do at work, on the basketball court, or even when we're taking a nap?

In this episode of the Live Faith First podcast, Elliot Sands welcomes pastor and author Jeremy Treat to explore a simple but transformative idea: Every part of our lives can be part of our discipleship journey.

Drawing from his book Everyday Discipleship, Jeremy challenges the sacred–secular divide that often separates our spiritual lives from everything else. He explains why following Jesus isn't limited to religious activities but includes how we work, rest, play, learn, and build relationships.

Together, Elliot and Jeremy explore how repetitive or frustrating jobs can become opportunities to serve others, why God delights in our enjoyment of creation, and how rest can actually be an expression of faith rather than laziness.

They also tackle some less expected aspects of discipleship, including science and sexuality. Jeremy explains why Christians need not fear scientific discovery and how our longing for intimacy points toward something greater than romantic relationships.

Ultimately, this conversation is an invitation to stop dividing life into spiritual and nonspiritual compartments and begin recognizing God's presence and purpose in the ordinary moments of every day.

Jeremy Treat, PhD, is the Pastor for Preaching and Vision at Reality LA, a church in the heart of Los Angeles, and a professor of theology at Biola University. He earned his PhD from Wheaton College and is the author of several books, including The Crucified King, Seek First, The Atonement, and his newest release, Everyday Discipleship: How Faith Shapes the Most Practical Areas of Life.

Jeremy's ministry and writing focus on helping people understand the gospel and follow Jesus in every area of life. His latest book challenges the division between sacred and secular activities, encouraging Christians to recognize that work, rest, relationships, and ordinary experiences are all opportunities for spiritual formation. Originally from Alaska, Jeremy grew up in the Seattle area before attending Biola University. He and his wife, Tiffany, have four daughters and live in Los Angeles.
