What happens when God calls us to something we feel completely unprepared to do?
In Exodus 4, Moses protests that he cannot speak well, insists that he is the wrong person for the assignment, and finally asks God to send someone else. God does not withdraw the call. He promises to teach Moses what to say and provides Aaron as a helper.
Moses’ story reminds us that God’s calls are not based upon our qualifications but upon his purposes. We are all inadequate and all fall short, yet those are precisely the kinds of people God works through. He gives believers the Holy Spirit as a permanent helper and provides everything needed for life and godliness.
We are saved by grace rather than by our works—but we are also created in Christ for good works that God has prepared for us. When God calls, he equips. Our responsibility is to lay aside what holds us back, fix our eyes on Jesus, and faithfully walk where he leads.
