Prayer is not a tool for getting more of what we want. It is an act of surrender. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus modeled what true prayer looks like: bold enough to ask clearly, and surrendered enough to release the outcome entirely to God. He asked the Father to take the cup from Him, yet yielded completely to the Father's will. That cup represented the full weight of God's wrath toward sin, and Jesus willingly bore it so we would not have to. God's kingdom grows in our lives not through force, but through our willing surrender. Prayer is what makes that surrender possible.

Doubt is not the enemy of faith. It can actually be a doorway into a deeper relationship with God. The Old Testament prophet Habakkuk modeled this well by bringing his raw, honest questions directly to God rather than suppressing them or walking away from his faith altogether. He cried out about injustice, violence, and the apparent silence of God, and God responded, though not in any way Habakkuk expected. Faith is not the absence of questions. It is the willingness to bring those questions to the One who is big enough to hold them.
